There’s a world of difference between being an active witness to bullying and abuse, and being merely a bystander. A bystander has already decided to be an uninvolved spectator, to look the other way, to pretend ignorance if called upon. A witness can make a tactical decision based on the circumstances – intervene now in some tactical way or speak up later. At work, co-workers or bosses are bullies; at home, abusive parents will harass and bully one young child while lavishing goodies on the other; in addition, toxic parents will favor one adult child over another with love and[....]

He was a rabid environmentalist.  He considered babies “parasitic human infants”, and wanted all “pro-birth” programs to push “stopping human birth”.  He was extremely anti-war, and equated having more humans with more war.  He considered civilization “filth”, and its religious roots “disgusting”. And ThinkProgress, an extremely popular liberal blog, calls out the Right over this guy, James Jay Lee, who took hostages at the Discovery Channel, because one of his eleven points refers to immigration. [....]

I have given this some considerable thought. When push comes to shove, I really don’t give a damn what is thrown at me, I do however get very concerned when people start picking on my wife. As a result I have decided to stop reporting on the Haleigh Cummings case. It has become such a polarized case that it does not matter what is reported, some idiot will still attack us. If we earned the big bucks that people accuse us of, I might shrug it off. However this case represents no revenue and just a whole lot of aggravation. I have not discussed this decision with Jan, if she wishes to[....]

I just finished watching the “Restore Honor” rally at the Washington Monument, and the message from the rally moved me greatly. First, for those who do not know me, I am a Christian, and believe in the rapture, and of all that is spoken of in the book of Revelation. I say that because I realized today, that on occasion I have used this belief and knowledge to comfort myself in the fact that the degradation of morals and principles in our nation is all part of God’s plan….which, don’t get me wrong, I certainly still believe to be true and do take a certain[....]

Jan spoke with Zachary Pittman’s mother Christy Ragas earlier today. There was a search for Zachary on Saturday. Nothing of value in the case was found. Christy is understandably down, but she does have high hopes in the new detective that has been assigned to the case. What must be admired is this woman’s drive to bring this case to a conclusion. She has no illusions about finding her son alive, she merely wants to find a way to close this sad chapter in her life. Both Jan and I wish that we had heard about Zachary Pittman at the time he disappeared. I doubt that we could have[....]

The following is an article by Fathers & Families Board Member, Robert Franklin, Esq.: I’ve written a fair amount on parental alienation and parental alienation syndrome (PAS) or parental alienation disorder (PAD). I’ve said before that I’m in no way qualified to give an opinion about whether the behavioral changes displayed by an alienated child fit the American Psychiatric Association’s definition of a discrete syndrome or disorder. But what I do know is that certain parents attempt to alienate children from the other parent and that that effort can result in[....]

The following is an article by Fathers & Families Board Member, Robert Franklin, Esq.: Here’s yet another piece that lauds equality between mothers and fathers in childrearing, but uses some very questionable “facts” and figures to do it (Chicago Tribune, 8/20/10). The writer, Alexa Aguilar, wants to think of her marriage as non-traditional enough that both partners work and both do childcare. But she notices that, when push comes to shove, she’s more likely to control childcare and housework while her husband does the more traditionally male tasks around the[....]

If you pick up your average dictionary and look up the word ’spin’ the definitions talk about revolving over an axis. As a kid I had a gyroscope, it was a wonderful toy, it mattered not where you put it, if it was spinning it would stay there. Of course after a while the spinning disc would slow down. This magic toy would eventually fall over. As it lost momentum it also lost the ability to remain upright, it would wobble around, and finally fall to the ground. In today’s world ’spin’ has an additional definition. It is how you ’spin’ a story. How[....]

Over-protective, inept or unskilled mothers sabotage their daughters. Almost all the women who’ve interviewed me on radio and TV or who’ve called in with comments have said that their mothers told them to rise above mean girls, to be nicer and kinder to bullies, to be nice because the mean girls were being bullied at home, to feel sorry for the bullies because they had low self-esteem or to simply forgive mean girls as a spiritual thing to do. That’s bad advice; those methods don’t stop real-world bullies and mean girls.  Those mothers trained their daughters to be easy targets and[....]

The mother of a 16 tear old girl is asking the public to please help her find her daughter. The Newnan Police department has her listed as a “Missing Runaway Child” and she was last seen on August 9, 2010. Leslie Ashlyn Fain had left her home for school at 7:30 am when her mother last seen her. Leslie’s mother, Lisa, started to worry about her daughter when she never returned home after school. She called the high school where Leslie attended and was shocked to learn that Leslie had not even reported in to school that day at all. She was also suppose to be attending classes at the[....]

Jan and I have been following this story for some time. It is easy to play the ‘Press Card’ that the police will not talk to us. It is even easier to ‘buy in’ for a couple of weeks and then move on to a new case. Unfortunately that is not who we are. Jan and I pick a story, a case, and we stick at it. Most police organizations are not used to this approach. There will be a couple of phone calls from the press, and then they move on. Because the press can be a ‘real pain in the ass’ most organizations have a position created for a PIO, or in regular speak,[....]

The following is an article by Fathers & Families Board Member, Robert Franklin, Esq.: (1) Parenting time shall be granted in accordance with the best interests of the child. It is presumed to be in the best interests of a child for the child to have a strong relationship with both of his or her parents. Except as otherwise provided in this section, parenting time shall be granted to a parent in a frequency, duration, and type reasonably calculated to promote a strong relationship between the child and the parent granted parenting time…(3) A child has a right to parenting time[....]

Let’s analyze a worst-case scenario for loving, caring parents. You were pretty good parents but one of your children has turned out toxic – not a psychopath but someone who acts like she (or he) hates you. It’s not your fault, but she blames you for not giving her everything she wanted or wants now, she’ll be sweet one moment and then abusive, vicious and hateful the next, she harasses and bullies you relentlessly when she wants something; she tries to involve the rest of the family in her schemes and feuds.  Or her boyfriend or husband hates you and she goes along with it and it[....]

A little over a week ago I wrote an article about another missing person, Eric Preimesberger from Reno Nevada. Simon and I spoke to Eric’s mother, Kay Wilson, who was determined to find out what had happened to her son. Eric was married and had two wonderful children, Ivy Rayne, 6 years old and Damien Eric, 22 months old. Eric and his wife were apparently planning to move to Eugene Oregon to start a new business with his wife, Kristi’s brother, Timmy. According to Kay he was excited about the move and his new business. Kay even spoke to her granddaughter, Ivy about the move and Ivy was[....]

“Proposition 8 fails to advance any rational basis in singling out gay men and lesbians for denial of a marriage license. Indeed, the evidence shows Proposition 8 does nothing more than enshrine in the California Constitution the notion that opposite-sex couples are superior to same-sex couples.” Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker With that ruling California’s Proposition 8 was put into legal limbo. A “temporary stay” (a legal order to stop the execution of a legal judgement) was quickly issued on Judge Walker’s decision — a stay that allowed[....]

Tuesday, August 10, 2010 was the mark of 18 months since little Haleigh Cummings has been missing. Numerous searches, hundreds of tips, lots of family arrests for unrelated charges, yet none of this has helped to find Haleigh. It sure makes me wonder sometimes if someone is just not looking in the right direction in this case. I wasn’t at the vigil held last night, but I sure wish I could have been. What I have seen from other articles online though it gave me a pretty good idea who participated in this event though. Diena Thompson, Somer Thompson’s mother appeared to show her support[....]

I wanted to write something for Caylee yesterday but for some reason I just couldn’t. Yesterday this little angel would have turned 5 years old. She would be going to school and having fun playing with the other children her age. But no, poor little Caylee will never see her first day of school. She won’t be around to play with her school friends. The sad part is that she has been robbed of all this. She will never have a life on earth anymore all because someone (and I am sure we all know who that is) has taken her life in such a cruel and heartless way. Someone was apparently so[....]

It has been said that the heart and soul of the American economy is the small business. To that point it has been argued that excessive taxation, fees and regulations have provided barriers to the creation and growth of small business. The mantra from conservative radio and many business periodicals is that if the government would just get out of the way of the small business owner, said business would prosper, create jobs and add to the overall growth of the economy. The mantra of the Right, beginning with Reagan is, “Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the[....]

This is the line that CNN and other news organizations are running. The skimming, burning, and dispersal efforts have disposed of 74% of the oil that was unleashed on the Gulf of Mexico. While it may be technically proved that 74% of the oil has been dealt with, where did it go? Yes it may well be true that 25% of the oil was disposed of by controlled burns, who knows what damage to the Gulf that caused! I can not argue that the chemical dispersant’s may well have dealt with another 25%. But, what happened? Was the cure worse than the disease? How much damage was done to the[....]

. First Lady Obama, speaking at NAACP in July, on the eve of their declaring the Tea Party racist, stated, “When African American communities are still hit harder than just about anywhere by this economic downturn and so many families are just barely scraping by…”and “…just like so many other challenges that we face as a nation, the African American community is being hit even harder by this issue.” Mrs. Obama, like so many in her small circle, appears to be completely blind to the rest of America. Does she honestly believe that the ‘African American’ community is hit[....]
