Those are the official numbers released this week by company CEO Evan Williams. As any follower of Twitter knows, of those 300,000 apps, Twitter has purchased quite a few third-party developed programs of there own, Evan justified those purchases by stating: “We did iPhone user tests and confirmed[....]

After releasing an official iPhone app in May, the folks at Twitter HG have unveiled an iPad app that may strike fear in the hearts of third party tweet developers. Twitter for iPad takes advantage of the iPad’s fluid touch interface, letting you move lots of information around smoothly and quickly – without needing to open and close windows or click buttons. [...] When you tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video, you can play that video inline. And, let’s be honest, video is great but sometimes it can take some time to load. The panes in Twitter for iPad let you[....]

The boys and girls at Twitter HQ tweeted out a request to the twittersphere asking for suggestions on ways to improve the official iPhone app. If you have any problems/feature requests related to the new Twitter for iPhone app please let us know at @mobilesupport. Thx! (via @Tweetie) While a few extra features like push notifications and filters would do wonders to improve the service, Twitter might want to consider adding these 5 critical features to the next update (some which are already being implemented by third party tweet apps). More Video Options Please Although Twitter for[....]

It was revealed yesterday that a bug in Twitter would allow enterprising individuals to send Tweets longer than 140 characters. The bug was first exploited in the Twitter Development Talk Google Group when Chris White gave a step-by-step account of how to allow for the new Tweet length. The process was simple, visit http://twitter.com/share?url= using Firefox and then put your Tweet in after the “?url=” section of the URL and click enter. The users Tweet box will then show the http://t.co/ shorted URL, click on the tweet button and your full length message will now be sitting[....]

The Social Network will debut in theaters later this year and with it will come the portrayal of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a sex crazed insane businessman and programmer, but what about the guys at Twitter? For tweet loving fans there’s now the parody trailer for The Twit Network. Okay, so it’s not really a movie, but rather one of the best attempts I’ve ever seen to parody the trailer of a real movie. From the crazy hyped up music (parodying the song Creep by Radiohead), to some of the funniest dialogue I’ve heard in a while, this is a great trailer, so much[....]

Starting Thursday, Google Android users can download the beta version of the platforms TweetDeck application, the most popular 3rd-party Twitter app currently available. The program will no doubt have issues as it’s not fully polished and TweetDeck is still relying on feedback from users. However what it does offer is integration with Facebook, Twitter, Buzz and Foursquare in one single program. Users can also view their own Twitter @replies with the “Me” column, while also viewing comments and likes from Facebook. You’ll also notice updated color-codes with a[....]

After news surfaced about Twitter rolling out an official button, the micro blogging company has finally unveiled their shiny new button for the masses. While an official Twitter button was inevitable, the fact that Twitter chose to partner with TweetMeme was (refreshingly) surprising. Today we’re launching the Tweet Button to make sharing simple. It lets you share links directly from the page you’re on. When you click on the Tweet Button, a Tweet box will appear — pre-populated with a shortened link that points to the item that you’re sharing. [...] You may have seen similar[....]

In an attempt to make it easier for mobile outsiders to experience the twitterverse without becoming a member, Twitter has released a new feature that may broaden its appeal beyond its current user base. We’ve always been big fans of trusty SMS messaging. In fact, sending a text was originally the only way users could tweet. This is why Tweets are 140 characters — they need to fit into a text message. We value SMS because it’s simple, instant and universal. Recently, we’ve added a few new features to make Twitter even more useful with SMS. Fast Follow. Anyone in the US can[....]

Despite the abundance of tweet buttons from various companies across the blogosphere, Twitter is possibly launching an official button this week, which could spell the end for companies like TweetMeme (a service the Blog Herald uses) in the not so distant future. Twitter is launching an official Tweet Button for sharing articles on websites and counting how many times a URL has been shared, according to documents Mashable has obtained. The Tweet Button could launch as soon as this Thursday. We’re still diving into the details, but from what we can tell, the Tweet Button is designed to[....]

Considered by many to be an ancient tradition of the twitterverse, “follow Fridays” (symbolized by the #followfriday or #ff hash tags) has been one of the primary ways at finding new friends on Twitter. Taking a cue from its users, Twitter has created a feature that will help fans find friends with similar tastes without spamming their tweet streams with hash tags and usernames. With more than a hundred million users on Twitter, there are sure to be at least dozens of accounts out there that will reflect your interests. The trouble is finding all of them. Today we’re[....]

Sick and tired of those stupid Twitter whales telling you the system is overloaded? So it Twitter! and their finally doing something about it, moving their business into a custom built data center with plenty of space for scaling their systems as needed. Twitter has essentially had problems with their system since the first day of use with constant downtimes and slow-downs in their system as the company has grown from an experiment in micro-blogging to a site with upwards of 4,000 tweets per second coming in during major events such as the World Cup. To put their growth into context, the[....]

Twitter’s hoping to conjure up a new revenue stream with @earlybird, its take on the limited-time-only online deals craze. And the company announced Wednesday its first @earlybird deal: a limited two-for-one ticket deal for the new Disney live-action flick “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” which just hit theaters. It’s Twitter’s second edgy ad partnership with Disney, after a “promoted trend” in sync with the Pixar film “Toy Story 3.” Unfortunately, Twitter might not want to be launching @earlybird with this turkey, an over-the-top[....]

You will be familiar with the Old Spice Man. He’s the embodiment of the kind of man every man-loving being would love to keep on being with. Tuesday, Old Spice Man decided to use all the tools of the Web at his disposal in order to show just how body, mind, Twitter, YouTube, Digg, and Reddit (and even Facebook) can work together to sell rather strange-smelling deodorant. For just one day, people could post their comments, questions or “whatever else” to @OldSpice on Twitter, Reddit, and elsewhere and the ones that were voted most popular, would receive, for their trouble,[....]
